Sugaring is Family

I think all my life I loved sugaring because all my cousins would be there.  Even as a little kid I remember behind the sugarhouse there was a little stream and our parents never, ever watched us.  They would build a big dam out there and we would play in the water.  It was like forty degrees out and here's all these kids playing in the water!  I remember going to the wood with my uncles.  When I was either ten or eleven my uncle Bruce carved my initials in a tree, that everyone had their initals in, if you worked...you got your initials carved in the tree only if you worked.  I remember being pretty proud of that and then not working anymore... till I came to Dave!  Anyways it's way, way up in the woods.  I think it's spending time with family.  I mean my dad was a lawyer, he worked a lot, but during sugaring he spent time in the sugarhouse.  There's not much to do there except talk and drink syrup.  So, I was pretty happy when I met Dave because he had a sugarbush!!! ~ Jess Kittell (Branon) Gaudette
