Are there any stories about the sugarhouse and how it used to be a school?
Yeah, there's a few... We used to walk from the home farm over through, I was a first grader and there were probably ten or fifteen kids there. Most of them were brothers and sisters and a couple of them were neighbors. There was probably no more than twenty, 1st through 8th grade. It was an open one room school with wood heat. We used to play ball out by the side and in the winter time our hired men would take our car hoods or something up to the top of the hill. We would walk to the top of the hill where we used to boil and slide down on the car hoods. We would have our recess/lunch time up at the sugarhouse during sugaring. When you go back through you can see up the brook where we used to boil. ~ Tom Howrigan
